Awards & training

Training courses and skills maintenance sessions are listed on the website and communicated to members in a timely manner.

Attendees must be current Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club members, unless a course is open to other club members in the district. Register via your SLSA Members Area account (eLearning). Course payments where applicable should be made via your SLSA Members Area account.   To remain eligible to patrol and compete, members must requalify their awards yearly at a Skills Maintenance session, at the start of the season.

OGSLSC Volunteer members have the opportunity to achieve a range of awards and qualifications, thanks to the dedication and commitment of the Volunteer Trainer and Assessor network. These courses are designed to support members in their introduction to lifesaving and support their development in specific areas of interest.

Many of the courses have prerequisites. Please refer to the ‘Volunteer Training Handbook’ for further information. A number of awards include Nationally Recognised Units of Competence.

SKILLS MAINTENANCE (REQUALS)

To remain eligible to patrol and compete, members must requalify their awards yearly, at the start of the season. All expire on 31 December, eg. requals done in late 2021 for 2021/22 season will expire end December 2022. SLSA gives a grace period of four years in which a lapsed award can be requalified. After this period, the award must be completed from scratch.

Online theory completion (via your Members Area account) is required for SRC, Bronze Medallion, ART/AID, IRBC and IRBD candidates.

Please make sure that you complete your online theory component and book in online for the practical component. Anyone who has not done this will not be accepted for the practical component.

Due to COVID-19, changes must be made to the way skills maintenance is run in 2021/22.

FAQS FOR COURSE/REQUAL REGISTRATION

HOW DO I REGISTER?

Registration for all courses is via Member Training from Anywhere. If you have already set up a Skills Maintenance from Anywhere account, you can now access it via your Members Area account: eLearning>Login to eLearning.

WHAT IF I AM PART OF A FAMILY GROUP?

For family groups, only the Primary member can access theirs through the Members Area. Once other family members start gaining awards they need to set up their own Members Area account, which will allow them to keep track of their own awards and patrol hours. They can still remain in their family group on the database. Please note, accounts must be in the course participant’s name, NOT parent’s name.

WHAT IF I AM A MEMBER BUT DO NOT HAVE A MEMBER TRAINING FROM ANYWHERE ACCOUNT SET UP?

Please create an SLSA Members Area account. You can access LSV Member Training From Anywhere account by logging into your Members Area account, then elearning/login to elearning. You’ll be asked to input more personal details at this point.

WHAT IF I HAVE A MEMBER TRAINING FROM ANYWHERE ACCOUNT BUT DO NOT HAVE AN SLSA MEMBERS AREA ACCOUNT?

You will need to create an SLSA Members Area account.  Visit here to create one with exactly the same username and password as your Member Training From Anywhere account. It can help if the participant has a different email address to the family account’s email address (in the surfguard database). Via the family Members Area account, edit the participant’s to a different email. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any problems.

WHAT IF I DON'T SEE SPECIFIC INFO (I.E. BLANK SPACES) WHEN LOGGED INTO MEMBER TRAINING FROM ANYWHERE?

Once you’re logged into LSV Member Training From Anywhere, find New Course, select the course and Enrol.  If you do not see specific info, just blank spaces, it is likely to be a browser issue. Safari seems to have troubles. Try logging in again via Chrome or Firefox.

WHAT IF I DON'T SEE SPECIFIC OCEAN GROVE COURSES WHEN LOGGED INTO MEMBER TRAINING FROM ANYWHERE?

If you see some courses but not the Ocean Grove one you want, then it’s likely the new LSV From Anywhere account is not linking up with OGSLSC. Many courses are available to Ocean Grove members only, so if it’s not recognising you as an OG member it won’t show you the course. In this case, please call LSV Volunteer Training 9676 6980 and ask them to link your account to OGSLSC.

I AM HAVING ISSUES WITH MY SLSA MEMBERS AREA ACCOUNT.

For issues with SLSA Members Area accounts log a support ticket here.  Alternatively you can call them on 1300 724 006 but you seem to get quicker response via the web enquiry.
