RIP TO RIVER classic

A 10 km surf beach run from "The Rip" at Point Lonsdale to Ocean Grove by the Barwon River. Support your Surf Lifesaving Club when you Bank with Beyond Bank!

Gold Partner Beyond Bank (formerly AWA Alliance Bank) shares a rich history in the Geelong community. Originally founded as the Point Henry Credit Co-operative for Alcoa employees and their families, Beyond Bank has long been committed to supporting the region.

Beyond Bank has proudly supported the Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club for a number of years, and recently announced its commitment to extending its Gold Partnership for another three years.

The partnership includes an innovative shared revenue model that continues a legacy first introduced with AWA. Under this model, individuals and businesses can link their banking services—such as home loans, business banking, credit funds, or term deposits—to the OGSLSC. For every $1 in banking linked to club, Beyond Bank will pay a monthly donation to the club.

To learn more about this opportunity, the guys from Beyond Bank will be down at the Rip to River Run on the 4th January supporting this event, so go over and say hi, or visit the friendly team at Beyond Bank’s Malop Street office, visit their website https://online.beyondbank.com.au/ or contact Cameron Murnane, Community Development Manager on 0413 938 268 or cmurnane@beyondbank.com.au

Protection of Hooded Plovers

Hooded Plovers are an endangered beach nesting bird that lives and breeds on our ocean beaches on the Bellarine Peninsula. Hoodies struggle to find a bit of undisturbed space on the beach in Spring and Summer to incubate their eggs and raise a family amongst the masses of beach users.

Birdlife Volunteers play a big part in helping to protect Hooded Plovers during their breeding season when they are most vulnerable. If a threat comes too close, Hoodies will sneak away from the nest and try to lead away any predators they think might discover their nest or chicks. This leaves the eggs vulnerable to baking in the hot sun or chicks predated on or starving as they cannot get to the waterline to feed.

During the Rip to River Run, Volunteers will be present at sites where there is a nest and where chicks are feeding on the beach. They will be visible in their Yellow Hi Vis Vest as you pass them during your walk/run. to ensure your enjoyment of the event has the least impact on the breeding birds that you will pass.

By keeping to the shoreline and remaining on the hard wet sand during the race, you will be helping to keep the Hooded Plovers safe from harm and your race time will be optimised. The Volunteers will be cheering you on as you pass by too! Thanks for helping us help our Hoodies and have a great race!

We sincerely thank RT Edgar Bellarine as the major sponsor of the Rip to River.

Please support them, as they support our Club
