PATROL ROSTER

KNOW YOUR PATROL ROSTER

Calendar/Rosters are emailed to patrolling members in early November each year. There will be an update in January, incorporating new SRCs/Bronze Medallion holders.

If you are unable to fulfill a patrol, you can arrange a substitute. Please remember, it is your responsibility to do so if you cannot attend your rostered patrol.  Penalties can apply for no shows which usually involve make up patrols but in some cases may involve refusing your entry into a carnival.  Please do the right thing and act early and ask someone to directly sub.

WHAT TO DO TO FIND A SUBSTITUTE FOR YOUR PATROL

All patrolling members are obliged to attend their Rostered Patrols or arrange for a substitute patroller if they cannot attend. The Roster has been arranged so that both Aussie Title and State Titles are patrolled by members who don’t usually compete, but it is nearly impossible to arrange the roster not to clash with some carnivals and other events. If your work or study commitments make it impossible to be on the roster for the whole season, please contact the Club Captain clubcapt@oceangroveslsc.asn.au to explain your circumstances so that appropriate arrangements can be made for you to fulfil your patrol commitment and remain an active member of the club.

Below are some simple steps for finding and notifying of a sub.

GIVE PLENTY OF NOTICE

Check the roster and if you know you have a clash, start finding a substitute as soon as possible.

CHECK THE ROSTER FOR WHAT AWARDS & DUTIES YOU HAVE

Substitutes need to hold similar awards to you but may not necessarily have to have exactly the same ones: for example, if you are rostered as an IRB driver for a patrol and hold your ART and First Aid, your sub will need to hold an IRB drivers award but may not have to have an ART or First Aid Award in order to substitute for you as a duck driver.

GET IN TOUCH WITH SUBSTITUTES DIRECTLY

Contact numbers are on the Patrol Groups document (Members/. Don’t be shy, you will find that members are quite accommodating if they are asked directly to substitute. (A good trick is to look at the annual report and see who does lots of patrol hours; they may be happy to do a sub for you as they will often be patrolling anyway!) Remember though, you still have to complete a minimum of 16 hours per season. There is an Active Reserve list at the bottom of the Patrol Roster; they will often be willing to help out.

WHEN YOU FIND A SUB

Please contact your Patrol Captain to let them know the name of the sub.

IF AFTER TRYING ALL OF THE ABOVE YOU STILL CAN'T FIND A SUBSTITUTE

Contact your Patrol Captain and discuss the situation OR  contact the Club Captain and explain your situation and outline what steps you have taken to find a sub.
