Surf Ed Program
The Ocean Grove Surf Ed program is a perfect introduction to surf lifesaving activities for children aged from 7 to 12. Surf Ed Nippers learn about surf awareness and beach safety, as well as developing new skills and making new friends. The Surf Ed activities are introduced in a fun and safe atmosphere and provide Nippers with the basic lifesaving skills appropriate to their age.
Surf Ed runs for five or six sessions in the evenings from late December to early January each year. Dates for the 2016/2017 Surf Ed program are listed on the Nippers calendar.
The Under 8/Under 10 year old sessions usually run from 5.30pm-7.00pm. The Under 11/Under 13 year old sessions usually run from 6.00pm-7.30pm.
At Surf Ed the beach is the classroom. The program aims to build confidence in the water and on the beach by learning new skills such as body surfing, beach sprints, wading, dolphin-diving and board paddling. Activities are conducted by qualified instructors.
To sign up for Surf Ed you will need to join the club, and a parent must join with their child(ren). Joining the club automatically enrols your child in their age group for Surf Ed.
There are a few membership options to meet your needs:
- one parent one junior activities member for $275
- one parent two junior activities members for $315
- two parents and all children under the age of 18 for $345
Please go to how to join for more information.
All Surf Ed participants are given a high vis long-sleeve rash vest as part of the program. However, Nippers are required to purchase a competition cap for $20. Caps will be available for purchase on the first couple of evenings of the Surf Ed Program.
At the first Surf Ed session your child will complete a preliminary swim assessment by a qualified assessor from the Club. This is to ensure that adequate water safety is provided for all Surf Ed participants based on their abilities.
